Thesis Exhibition Brand Identity Design - 2026
Brand Identity / Editorial / Print-Media Marketing / Experiential Design / Merchandise

SUBTEXT

Subtext was a collaborative brand identity developed with my cohort of 11 designers to unify and represent our two MFA thesis exhibitions. Working as part of the larger team, I focused on the editorial side of the identity, designing the posters and exhibition booklets that guided visitors through each show.

The first exhibition featured two distinct 5.5 × 8.5" booklets, each using a different color to create a dynamic, approachable directory for the participating designers and their work. For the second exhibition, I developed a more refined 8.5 × 11" full-color publication on white, expanding the system into a more comprehensive editorial piece.

Designed to function both as an exhibition guide and a take-home artifact, the booklets gave visitors a way to navigate 11 individual thesis projects while creating a lasting physical record of the exhibitions. The project was an opportunity to explore editorial design, information hierarchy, and print as an extension of a larger collaborative identity.

Take One translated the idea behind Subtext—looking deeper into information—into an interactive experience on campus. Installed in the center of campus, the installation used a grid of monotype “TAKE ONE” lettering paired with invitation cards containing information about the exhibition.

Each invitation was secured directly to the wall, allowing visitors to physically remove one and take the information with them. As people collected the cards, the typography gradually deteriorated, making the audience’s interaction with the installation visible over time. The project turned a simple promotional moment into an evolving piece of experiential marketing, where participation became part of the design itself.
